They will spend a good part of the day with your elderly parent, so they should feel comfortable communicating with your parent. The home care worker should also be able to communicate with you at ease. If your parent's health condition, for example, seems to be worsening, the professional should be able to tell you that.

Reliability is another important characteristic to look for in a home care professional. Your parent will depend on this person to help them with important tasks, such as taking medication or preparing meals. If the home care worker shows up late or does not arrive at all, it could severely jeopardize your parent's health and well-being.
